Name: Jinny Newlin
Blog: Soaring

When and how did you start Cardmaking?

Tough question!  I must’ve begun card-making when I was old enough to hold a crayon, because my Mom has all kinds of Mother’s Day, birthday, and Valentine’s Day cards, from ages ago, that I created for her, put away in a special file.  But officially, I stopped buying any kind of manufactured, Hallmark creation and started letting my creative juices flow, for all occasions, ten years ago.

When would you say you are most creative?
I’m definitely most creative during nap/rest time for my kiddos, but lots of times that creativity also comes back to play once they’re in bed for the night and creeps into the wee hours of the morning.

What is your favorite technique?
My all-time, favorite technique is stitching!  It’s rare to find one of my projects without the fabulous texture and design it creates.

Do you trend watch?  Is it an important part of your creative process?
Absolutely!  I LOVE to trend watch and try new things, but I won’t just do something because it’s trendy.  I watch for the trends that fit my style and capture my attention.

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you?  If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?
I think the designer that most inspires me is Betsy Veldman.  I love her use of bright colors and stitching and the way she can pile it on without overdoing it.

How would you describe your style?
Oooo!  Another tough question!  I’ve been told that it is “a mix of layered CAS with a simple elegance that leans towards casual vintage”.  A few things that almost always seem to find their way into my creations are machine stitching, element and paper layers, ink distressing, and fluffy bows.  And I especially LOVE gingham and polka dots!

How long would you say it takes you to complete your card?
Most cards take me about an hour, give or take another hour or two, to design and create.

Now have a peek at Jinny's elegance:

Jinny, your cards are so magnificent and stitching is indeed your finest signature...Thanks honey for satisfying our crafty passion this Friday!!! Also thanks to all who passed by :):) Happy Friday...
