Hi! I am Stella Schenkel, 47 years old, happily married for 26 years and mother of two grown up sons (24 and 21 years old) and I live in Groningen in the northern part of the Netherlands (Europe)

When and how did you start card making?
In 2009; and hooked ever since :)

When would you say you are most creative?
In the evenings when I am home from work.

What is your favorite technique?
Stamping ; especially background stamping

Do trends inspire your creative process?
Yes; but I tend to stick to classic patterns :)

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?
I always try to make something unique; I hardly make the same card twice

If you were stuck on a deserted Island, what THREE paper crafting supplies would you HAVE to have with you?
My stamps, ink and of course paper...

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique calls your attention?
I am a huge fan of Melissa Philips’ style. She always makes the perfect mix and match of stamping, papers and embellishments

How would you describe your own style?
Feminine and romantic.

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
Geesh; I often spend too much time picking stamps, papers and embellishments. A card ususally takes me 1 ½ hour ( I know; that’s too long...)

Do you have a favorite occasion to create for?
I love birthday and ”thinking of you” cards

When you are finished with your creations what do you do with them?
I usually send them to someone and sometimes I make a few for someone so they can send them to someone.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past? Please include guest design positions?
I’ve been a Guest designer at CR84FN in February 2011 and a Guest designer at CCCB in October 2011

for a cute baby girl,,,, I do really get stuck up these days with the enormous amount of cards created for babes but fortunately crafting products are always inspirational!!!! Here I adhered the transparent sheet on an embossed Kraft cardstock then placed the stickers, die-cut and the tiny pink-hearted bear :)

1. When did you start this hobby?

I started scrapbooking since2008, when my sister first introduced me to scrapping world. The moment I foundout and seen those yummy colors of papers, pretty embellishments and how amazing creations can be I did not have a doubt at all and straight enrolled my firstscrapbooking class at one of the LSS.

2. Who inspires you the most?

When I first startedscrapbooking, the first online scrapbook kit club store I found was StudioCalico. I instantly adore the kit and not long after I signed up to be one oftheir members.

3. Define yourstyle?

I am sad to say, Ido not have a specific style because I love exploring with many kind of mediumsand designs. I can do simple and clean layout and I love doing intrigue designtoo.

4. What areyour favorite tools?

I cannot craftwithout my precision scissor, a sharp blade and of course 3-in-1 Beacon craftglue and not forgetting my cutting mat.

5. What is yourfavorite technique?

At the moment, I think myfavorite technique is layering and fussy cutting.

6. Do youfollow the latest trends?

I don’t reallyfollow the latest trend. I usually go with the flow I have but I tend to likeusing the latest product line and I love Studio Calico Kit.

7. Where do younormally do your artwork?

At the moment, Iscrap on my dinning table. I can’t wait till I get my new craft room. I hateto say this but I seriously took over the whole dining space.

8. What are your favorite colors?

This is a very difficultquestion (lol). I love all kind of colors and if you would like me to pick onethat will be WHITE.

9. Are you designing forany products, brands or scrapbook store?

Yes, I am currently owning ascrapbook store and having Studio Calico kit as my store Kit Club. Apart fromhaving Studio Calico kit club, I carry a wide range of products in the onlinestore. 10. How much do you spend per month buying your art supplies?

Well, pretty hard to say howmuch I spend every month. Though I own a store for myself, I can just takewhatever things I like. I still buy things online or LSS. I would say, minimumspent for each month inclusive of kits and others would be $500 or more(sometimes)

11. Tell us a little bitabout yourself.

Way before I startedscrapbooking, I started my own Interior Designer business right after Igraduated from Sydney, Australia. I named the company Jlee Design Sdn Bhd, whichstarts with my initial and my last name. In year 2009, I gradually slowed down myID business because I was expecting. In year 2011, I haddecided and started my own scrapbook business which is Scrappin Studio owned byJlee Design Sdn Bhd.

*For those may notknow, Sdn Bhd simply means Private Limited*

I am still andforever will, enjoy and be contented living with my dear husband Mr.Cho andmy cheeky as ever and smiley son, Lucas. I have been a scrapbook admirer eversince 2008. Since then, I never give up in crafting and indeed the passion grewstronger and stronger each year. Well, creativeness is always in my blood becauseI always thought I inherited my dad's gene. Sometimes I claim my dad is aperfectionist. No doubt, I feel that I have something that runs in my bloodthat I am creative too!

Tell us a little something about yourself?

I'm mainly a SAHM to my amazing 6 yo daughter & wife to my fabulous husband- both of whom are really supportive of my crafting! We live in beautiful Western Washington state- a great place for boating & gardening (I enjoy both!). Besides loving to try all types of crafts, I am also trying to grow my photography skills. I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to paper. And ribbon. And probably stamps.

When and how did you start card making?

Many moons ago I went to a home catalog party- and I was HOOKED! I got away from it for a long time, until my friend, Cindy, introduced me to PTI, the world of acrylic stamps & blogs!

When would you say you are most creative?

Finding time is the biggest challenge these days! I thought I'd have lots of time during the day now that Hadley is in school full-time. Not yet! I still find evenings to be my creative time!

What is your favorite technique?

Adding ribbon. :) That's not a technique? I also love embossing- heat, cuttlebug, etc & machine sewing....

Do trends inspire your creative process?

Somewhat. Often times a trend will come along & inspire me to try something that I might not have otherwise!

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?

Staying focused! I want to try it all!

If you were stuck on a deserted Island, what THREE paper crafting supplies would you HAVE to have with you?

I guess I wouldn't get far without cardstock, ink & a stamp set! If this was a MAGIC deserted island & I already have those things- burlap twine, patterned paper, my cuttlebug. (I could emboss with sand for texture! hee!!)

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique calls your attention?

A designer? There are SO many that inpire me! Since you say 'industry' I'll go with Nichole Heady of Papertrey Ink & her design team. I love the variety of styles they showcase- from CAS to shabby & gorgeous. Someday I hope to be able to layer products & goodies like Danielle Flanders, Betsy Veldman & Ashley Cannon Newell! Their attention to detail is amazing.

How would you describe your own style?

I don't know that I can! It really depends on my mood & what I'm creating for.... Sometimes my finished product is VERY CAS, and sometimes I can layer some things together- that's something I'm working on! I've only recently come to enjoy fun & cute (thank you Lawn Fawn!).

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?

ahh. Some cards can take for-EVER! Days even. But if the stars are aligned I can make something in 15 minutes. I wish the stars were aligned more often!

Do you have a favorite occasion to create for?

Probably birthdays. I think it's special to give something handmade.

When you are finished with your creations what do you do with them?

I give most of them away! (although I am notorious for not mailing them in a timely manner! ack.)

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past? Please include guest design positions?

I am on the May Arts Ribbon Design Team& it has been a dream come true! I was a guest designer one month on Everything But the Kitchen Sink! :)

Our featured artist today is a lady who introduced herself to Amna Al Fardh (Team member) like this: I'm a beginner but I hope I can participate in your exhibition. When Amna saw her work she didn't think that the artist did justice to her talent and was more than happy to accept her entry into the quilling exhibition .. She actually sent her pieces in no time and just before the exhibition .. Hence she was one of the last entries .. but most certainly among those who impressed the crowd!!!! Let us introduce to you Mrs. Sathya who was one of the participants at the 1st Paper Quilling Exhibition in the Arab World & the Middle East...

1) When did you start paper quilling ? and how did you know about it ?

I started my quilling in April 2011 and I came to know about it through an art and craft blog which followed Inna’s blog for the quilling.

2) Do you read books about quilling and other crafts? or what sources do you use mostly ?

I don’t own any quilling or other craft books and my only source is Internet and I love to research about the newer crafts around me. The tips and tutorials provided by fellow crafters are other great resource.

3) Describe yourself as an Artist , what hobbies do you like and practice? what other forms of art do you like?

I call myself as a beginner in Quilling as I have only 6 months of practice. I love to do pencil sketching, cross stich, origami. I have learnt Carnatic music, Classical dance (Bharatnatyam) and Musical instrument Veena. Cooking and Gardening are most lovable part of my routine. Currently Quilling has turned from a hobby to an obsession.

4)How long have you been crafting in general ?

It started well from my childhood days as my Mom is an artist. I have seen her doing water color painting, oil and acrylic paintings , Crayon, Pastel colour paintings. She is my true inspiration always. She took me to all drawing competitions in and around my place; cross stich and embroidery are my childhood time interests.

5) Do you work or study? and does practicing hobbies affect any aspect of your life?

Am a MPhil graduate in Toxicology specialization and have a pulsating desire to pursue my PhD. And also involved in my Educational institution (Little Gems) in Chennai, India. As of now, a Home maker, Mom of two and a half year old kid. These hobbies makes my life worth living. To inspire and being inspired is the way of life to me. Am absolutely happy with what I have, learn and make everyday.

6) Do you attend workshops or give workshops ?

I have not attended any workshops yet or given one. Am looking forward from Amna to give a workshop in India, in future, so that many of my country fellow quillers will benefit too.

7) Have you gained any benefit from your art? what kind of benefit ?

I don’t have any monetary benefits. Yet I get a complete self satisfaction and true happiness out of these works. Utmost dedication and perfection is what I seek in every work.

8) What advice do you have to other crafters?

I would like to see more people in this Emirates Quilling Guild to get involved and to learn crafts.

Its a real pleasure in life to be connected with the talented artists across the globe and to get their valuable suggestions, comments and views. This makes us to improve our skills in a greater sense.

I wish to add an important point, that each artwork is unique and has a special value. Due to plagiarism, many talented works are not being shared for the rest of the world. All members love to browse through the quilling art shared by other artists, and to get inspired. Being artist/learner, I feel each work has to be rewarded and has to be valued properly. Those who wish to follow an artwork or unique technique invented by the artist, please do mention the due credits. That way, the creator will be rightly rewarded and this can make them create many more such wonderful creations.

9) Anything you would like to add?

Many thanks to Amna for inviting me to share some of my background in quilling art with all of you. I actually feel really honored and grateful for being invited. My sincere thanks to Inna (http://increations.blogspot.com/) whom I consider as my silent teacher. I really got this passion for quilling from her. 1. Tell us a little something about yourself?

My name is Kelley Eubanks. I have been married to my husband, Michael, for 13 years. We have an almost 5 year old son, Carver, who is a hoot! I am blessed to be a stay at home mom/wife. We live in TN... right outside of Nashville.

2. When and how did you start card making?
I was invited to a Stampin' Up workshop about 4 years ago and I was hooked instantly. I had played around with scrapbooking and card making before that and already had a stash of craft supplies. It wasn't until I attended the workshop though that I found out card making was a passion of mine!

3. When would you say you are most creative?
Being a stay at home mom, I don't have time to craft during the day so I am definitely most creative at night. After Carver is in the bed... I get to have my time, relax, and create!

4. What is your favorite technique?
I love to use markers to ink rubber stamps. I love that you can ink a solid image different colors before you stamp it.

5. Do trends inspire your creative process?
I don't think so. I am not really a trend watcher. I tend to just go with what inspires me/appeals to me in all areas of my life!

6. Is there something about paper crafting that you find challenging?
Layers for sure! I am a clean and simple minded girl. I cannot add layers of paper and accessories! I wish I could but it just doesn't work out for me!

7. If you were stuck on a deserted island, what THREE paper crafting supplies would you HAVE to have with you?
Stamps, Ink and Cardstock

8. Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you?
There are so many people in this industry that inspire me. I would have a hard time naming one person... or just five for that matter. I love blog hopping because I never know what someone will make that will inspire me!

9. How would you describe your own style?
Clean and Simple is usually what I go with!

10. How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
Since my style is clean and simple... I would say on average about 20 mins.

11. Do you have a favorite occasion to create for?
Halloween and Christmas are my favorite for sure!!

12. When you are finished with your creations what do you do with them?
I keep a small stash of cards, tags, etc. on hand to use. I give the others away. I have given a lot of cards to my mom and some to friends. Just recently I put a basket of cards/tags in my husbands office for his co-workers. Michael is a Pastor of Students at our church. The staff at the church know the cards are there for them to go through whenever they need/want a card to hand out or mail. I am hopeful that it will save them a little money and bring whoever receives the card... a little happy! I would encourage anyone, who creates more cards than they can use, to do the same. You can give a basket to your church or your kids school for the teachers. I plan to keep the church basket stocked up as I can and then look for another place to 'help' as my stash of cards increases.

13. Are you on any Design Teamsor have served on any in the past? Please include guest design positions?
I am currently on the Penny Black Design Team, Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge Design Team and the Avocado Arts Design Team. I 'officially' started with the Avocado Arts team in January. I have been on the PSA Essentials Design Team and I have been a guest designer for Skipping Stones and My Creative Time.

When and how did you start cardmaking?
I started cardmaking when I was a little girl. My mom owns a rubber stamp company, so I've always grown up with stamps all around me. I casually played with them as a child, but didn't really start to make it a hobby/ passion until a few years ago.

When would you say you aremost creative?
Oh, that's a hard one....my creativity comes in spurts. I would have to say, after I browse blogs, I'm usually feeling pretty creative.

What is your favoritetechnique?
Honestly, I can't say I have a favorite. I'm kind of all over the place when it comes to crafting, so I'm constantly using different techniques.

Do trends inspire your creativeprocess?
Yes, they can at times. While I wouldn't say I'm super "trendy", I do like to know what is popular. On occasion, I'll add elements of trends into my projects.

Is there something aboutpaper crafting you find challenging?
For me, it's probably just trying to decide which stamps/colors I want to use on a project. Once I get those decided, it's usually pretty smooth sailing after that :)

If you were stuck on adeserted Island, what THREE paper crafting supplies would you HAVE to have withyou?
Oh, this is a torture for me, I love so many things. If I had to choose, it's my Big shot, Spellbinder dies and markers.

Is there a designer in thepaper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique calls yourattention?
I can't honestly say there is one specific person. I'm constantly being inspired by fellow bloggers and crafters.

How would you describe your ownstyle?
I'm having a hard time describing my style....I suppose it usually is fairly clean, and generally girly.

How long would you say ittakes you to complete a card or project?
Normally, a typical card takes 40-60 minutes. My cards are definitely labors of love :)

Do you have a favoriteoccasion to create for?
I would have to go with birthdays. It's fun to try to create a card that fits the recipients style.

When you are finished withyour creations what do you do with them?
A good amount of my cards go to various stamp shows across the country (to be displayed in the DeNami Design booth). However, I do also send my cards to relatives and friends, and occasionally will sell some.

1) Introduce yourself to our followers please

I am Kavya Nagalakunta currently studying in The Indian High School, Dubai. I am a 12 year old girl interested in learning various arts and crafts.

2) When did you start paper quilling? And how did you know about it?

Whenever I go to India I always watch various art programs on the TV. Two years back, I came across a segment where an artist introduced paper quilling. He showed how to make a basic flower and some 3D quilling and I did try it out. Later I tried it thrice in my assignments and created the quilled tulips. But this year I came across Yasmin aunt in Arte exhibition on June and I was amazed with her creations. She even told me some tips on making miniatures. I later bought a mini mould from her and tried out quilling and I am now experimenting with it.

3) Do you read books about quilling and other crafts? Or what sources do you use mostly?

After meeting Yasmin aunt, I came to know about others quillers and their works. I also refer books and checkout other blogs too.

4) What hobbies do you like and practice? What other forms of art do you like? How long have you been crafting in general?

I try out various crafts during my free time and I also joined Art Clubs in school where I learnt the basics of Origami, Relief work, drawing and painting, mirror carving, etc. I also play the keyboard sometimes. I have been crafting in general since I was 10 mixing art with my school assignments.

5) What inspires you to work and where do you get your inspiration from?

Various artists and crafters inspire me with their works. I am surrounded with some amazing parents, teachers, friends and others who always inspire me to bring the best out of me.

6) Does practicing hobbies affect any aspect of your life?

I am currently studying in Grade 8. Hobbies allow me to express myself better.

7) Where do you get your quilling supplies from, and what alternatives do you have if these are not available?

I used to cut my own strips before but later found some craft stores in the UAE and India that cater my needs.

8) Have you attended any workshops?

I have not attended any workshops for quilling but I attended classes for other crafts such as Mirror Carving and Relief work.

9) Have you gained any benefit from your art? What kind of benefit?

Pursuing art has given me an immense pleasure. These skills do come in handy at times.

10) Anything else you would like to share with us or would like to add? (This can be anything we didn't ask you or you think would add to your interview)

Tell us a little something about yourself?

I’m a mom and a wife--I’ve been marriedover 11 years and have two kids (my daughter turns 6 in December and my son is1.5 years old). I’m originally from the Phoenix area, but since high school,I’ve had 8 major moves for school and work. I have a doctoral degree(Psychology/Behavioral Neuroscience), and until the last year and a half, Iworked as a professor and evaluator. After my son was born we moved to SouthDakota to be closer to his parents, and I started doing research and evaluationconsulting work. My work is contractual, so my work hours fluctuate greatly,which usually allows for more crafty time. I started lurking on blogs about ayear ago, and I started blogging last February to be able to join inchallenges.

When and how did you start card making?

About 6 years ago I made all of mydaughter’s birth announcements, although I was done making 100announcements when I was 9 months pregnant, I was sick of it. Almost 3 yearslater, I was making hair clips and bows for my daughter and I wanted to die-cutsome flowers. I searched online and ran across die cutters and thepapercrafting world. Around the same time, a fabulous local stamping store inCorning, NY opened, and I became hooked on card making!

When would you say you are most creative?

My best ideas come when it’s quiet and Ihave time to think…in the shower, holding my son before he goes to bed, drivingon a highway. For me, I have to have an idea and sketch in mind before I startcrafting.

What is your favorite technique?

I don’t know if it’s really a technique,but I use at least one digital element on most cards…digital stamps, papers, ormy own sentiments. I love to paper piece (digi or regular) stamped images.

Do trends inspire your creative process?

I definitely watch trends and I try tomake at least one project using a new trend. Ultimately, though, I make what Ilike to make.

Is there something about paper crafting you findchallenging?

While I think I’m a pretty creativeperson in general and I’ve always loved to make crafty projects, I am not anaturally crafty person. Therefore, getting my projects to look polished isoften a struggle.

If you were stuck on a deserted Island, whatTHREE paper crafting supplies would you HAVE to have with you?

My husband is a little like theProfessor on Gilligan’s Island, so hopefully he would be along to make glue,scissors, ink, and palm tree paper. Otherwise, I would have to have stamps,twine, and dies.

Is there a designer in the paper craftingindustry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique callsyour attention?

There are so many designers that inspireme! I find I am drawn to designers who think outside the box and that arealways trying new things. I love designers who take risks. Some of the blogs Ifollow are totally different then my own style, but their ideas are soinspiring.

How would you describe your own style?

Primarily, I like my cards to be fun, andI lean heavily towards graphic and clean and simple styles. I often use boldcolors, oversized elements, and my own sentiments on my cards. I also love to incorporate somethingunexpected on a card.

How long would you say it takes you to completea card or project?

I am a very slow papercrafter. Someprojects come together quickly (about 30 minutes) after I have an idea in mind.Other projects take me days because I’m using a new technique, I deliberateover the elements, or I make and remake a card. I am way too analytical to beable to whip up a card in 10 minutes.

Do you have a favorite occasion to create for?

General cards—thinking of you.

When you are finished with your creations whatdo you do with them?

About 1/4 of my cards go into thegarbage can (although I do have an “ugly card” pile that I pull out for anoccasional laugh). For the rest, I usually set them on my piano to enjoy themthroughout the day. After that, they are either given to someone or they go intoa box in my craft room. A few cards get pulled apart and remade after I’velooked at them for a while.

I come from sunny Malaysia. I have a background in Architecture and currently a SAHM. Creating is a daily urge for me..you will find me at my craft table most of the time or at the LSS busy checking out new products. 1. When did you start this hobby?

I started to scrap in 2006. I still remember my first layout which is beach themed. Looking back, I've comed a long way. However I've stopped actively scrapping from 2007-2010 due to the passing of my baby... I just couldn't find the joy to scrap..time somehow stood still. It took 3 years for me to grief and be okay about everything, so I'm happy to say I'm back ! Thanks to my family and friends who have given me the drive to start crafting again.

2. Who inspire you the most?

Firstly, most definitely my family inspires me the most..they are so supportive and just adorable. Secondly I must say its the works of friends and crafters around the globe that inspire me as well. Thanks to the technology that allows me to visit friends across the seas while simmering the curry in the kitchen. I'm soo proud of the crafty mommas out there, a salute to all.

3. Define your style

I appreciate all styles and would challenge myself to create something different and out of the box. Some say that anything I made would turned out to be "Laura Ashley" ish. I dont' know..but I've made things "Lady Gaga"ish. Hmm..I love Tim Holtz too.

4. What are your favourite tools?

I must say my favourite tool is my Big Shot Pro, my ELNA sewing machine and my Crop-A-Dile. I cant live without them..they are my assistants.

5. What are your favourite techniques?

Of late, I love to use mixed media. My favourite is misting, texture paste and stamping. Sometimes I go overboard and add sewing as well as metal embossing . They somehow live in harmony on the layout.

6. Do you follow the latest trends when scrapbooking?

I love to learn something new, therefore will always lookout for latest trends ( I try too)

7.Where do you normally scrap?

I'm always dreaming to have my own studio some day...(dont we all). Currently I am happy with a craft corner that is slowwwly invading the living room. I dont think it will grow any bigger because my husband has noticed the invasion! But its a happy place where I frequently scrap and where my kids would come home from school everyday and check what mom made today. With their oohs and ahhs they start ordering journals and notebooks for their friends and of course, they must have one too. So I'm a busy mom.

8. Would you mind to share with us some photos of your craft area?

Welcome to my craft corner , this photo shows my craft area at its neatest eva ! BUT it does get really messy..most of the time.

9. What are your favourite colours?

My favourite colours are pastels.

10. Are you designing for any products,brands or scrapbook store?

I'm currently in the Design Team for Papier, one of the LSS here.

11.How much do you spend per month buying your scrapbook supplies?

What a sinful question ! I can tell you there's nothing scrap on the money in this craft. But I believe scrapping gives me endless happiness, so I dont mind spending. I would say around RM 250 per month. But, the budget gets busted occasionally - that is when I get too excited over a product and thought no one knew the sin. Ha..ha.

Marina Khong has wowed her fans always, and that's why she's here today! Her projects are a perfect balance of accents, a spot-on choice of papers, and a bounty of techniques :) Without further ado, let's introduce you to our star:

Blog: My Scrapspiration

1. When did you start this hobby?
I started scrapping early this year (2011) simply because I wanted to make an album as a gift for my baby's first birthday. It was supposed to be just that one album and I never imagined I would eventually start a blog and be this active! As I was scrapping, I ventured into card making and altered art which are just as fun.

2. Who inspires you the most?
I draw my inspiration from everywhere and everything. Most of the time the photos themselves are the inspiration. Also, there are many seasoned scrappers I admire and I frequently stalk their blogs for ideas and inspirations. I love sketch challenges, I can always count on them for a quick jumpstart.

3. Define your style?
At this point I can't say I have a definite style but I do love going in the shabby-glam direction, a little vintage, a little worn yet with a touch of glitter and bling. Having said that I'm still very flexible and fluid with my scrapping, I guess it's because I'm still pretty fresh at this. Generally, it depends on the mood or occasion of the photo and what I really want to convey . One thing for sure; I believe that with scrapping, the photo(s) should always take centrestage. The art and embellishment should bring out the photo and the story behind it and not overshadow it.

4. What are your favourite tools?
As a paper crafter, the few basics I can't do without are my best scissors, my paper trimmer and favorite adhesives. Next I would say are my edge scrapper and punches. I love my glitter glues, liquid pearls and all my inks too, although they are not tools, technically :)

5. What are your favourite techniques?
I don't think I have a favorite here as well, it really depends on the project at hand but I do find myself doing a lot of these basic techniques: layering, distressing, inking, misting and stamping. I'm still very much in the process of learning.

6. Do you follow the latest trends?
Only if it works for me and my project at hand. I do believe we should try everything as much as possible.

7. What are your favourite colours?
Again, these really depends on the projects at hand, though some colors are easier to work with than others. Somehow, unconsciously, I find myself working with a lot of teal. I also love classic neutral shades like kraft brown and beige.

8. Are you designing for any products, brands or scrapbook store?
I'm on the DT for Scrappingville, a local scrap & craft retailer in Kuala Lumpur.

Hello friends!!! Hope all are well :) :) Its been a week since I last posted and am still waiting for the end of coming week to get stable. I'm just praying that things go the way I want coz this step will be a milestone in my career life!!!

When and how did you start Card making?
Technically, I guess I started cardmaking when I was about 13 or 14. My mom got me into it, I remember her showing me how to heat emboss and I was hooked! I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then high school hit and well you know....it was put on the back burner. Sometime in 2005 my mom discovered a local scrapbooking store and started taking classes, which got me totally intrigued but I had just bought a condo and started a new job, life was too busy to start it up again. Excuses, excuses! So when my mom passed away in 2007 I promised myself I would put her stuff to good use. The bonus is I find it a great way to keep her close. And the rest is history!! :)

When would you say you are most creative?
Honestly, when I'm not trying. Sometimes if I sit down because I have to make something for a design team challenge the creativity doesn't flow as well. A lot of the time I can be blog surfing, or perusing Pinterest, or even reading a magazine and something will trigger an idea. Those are the times I find I am most in love with my cards.

What is your favorite technique?
I don't know if I have a favourite! My favourite style is definitely Clean & Simple. I see new techniques all the time and I just HAVE to try them. I have so much stuff from trying something and then realizing I can't make it work with my style. I do love paper piecing and colouring with my copics. Not that I'm any good with the copics as they are supposed to be used, ie the blending, but I have always loved to colour.

Do trends inspire your creative process?
They do in that I love learning new things, styles, techniques etc. I don't necessarily follow it whole heartedly, but I will use them to try take my style in a different direction.

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?
Yes, embellishing! I am always in awe of designers that can pair multiple patterned papers together, and put abundant amounts of ribbon, and buttons, and bling on their cards and have it look so fabulous. If I try to make a card like that, I end up finding it too busy and start taking things off!

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?
There are so many designers to choose from! Emily from Art From The Heart, a fellow Canadian who has mastered CAS and has a keen eye for finding multiple uses for stamps and things, I just love how her mind works. Cristina from My Paper Secret, another CAS master who puts a wonderfully unique spin on everything she does. I also love Heather from Witty Title Here, her style is fresh and clean and the way she uses colour is amazing.

How would you describe your style?
Clean and Simple, for sure. I try and branch out sometimes, but it's something that I always come back to.

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
It could take anywhere from 10 minutes to all night! It depends on how my creativity is flowing on a given day.

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?
Right now I either give them away, or they are stored in a beautiful box in my craft room. I have recently been toying with the idea of selling them, I just need to figure out what avenue would work best for me.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past including guest design spot?
Yes, I am currently a design team member for ColourQ colour challenge, Bows & Berries digital stamps, and Scrapbooker's Paradise Playing in Paradise challenges. I was also privileged to be the first monthly guest designer for Paper Smooches stamps.

I’m Lay Hoon from Malaysia.I’m mother of 2 children, a full time Quantity Surveyor and I make art during my free time. I do Art journaling, mixed media, scrapbooking, ATC, altered art, altered book, and handmade book, etc. I maintain 2 blogs, a craft blog called http://mescrap.blogspot.com and a postcard blog called http://travelpostcard.blogspot.com

1. When did you start this hobby?
I started art journaling 4 years back and first came to know about Art Journaling from a Soul Journaling class generously conducted by Sarah Whitmire. From there on, I started exploring new world other than scrapbooking. I learnt various techniques throughout the process and way to express the thought via Art. Art Journaling then became my tool to release / relieve my pressure.

2. Who inspires you most?
There are many great talented artists / art makers out there, for e.g. Michelle Ward, iHanna , Kathryn Anty, Alisa Burke, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer, DJ Pettitt, Milly (Taiwan) and etc.

3. Define your style.
It is quite difficult for me to categorize my own style. I love blending the essence of retro and vintage also sometimes with mixture of zakka style. I’m not the kinda of neat, organize and clean type and allow the imperfection (that’s Handmade, made by hand and heart).

4. What are your favorite tools?
Acrylic paint, distress ink, and spray.

5. What is your favorite technique?
I dont pre-plan the pages but rather let the creative juice flow on the point of time. I just enjoy the process of getting all the pieces together.

6. Where do you normally do your artwork?
I must thank my hubby to share me the room where my art supplies are more than his stuffs in the room.

7. What are your favorite colors?
Unconsciously I use blue green more and can’t resist with beige as well.

8. Are you designing for any products, brands or scrapbook store?
Not at the moment. I wish I will have such an opportunity.

9. How much do you spend per month buying your art supplies?
Not really calculated as the supplies are collected throughout the years of creating. For example, I hoard at Japanese washi tape one time that a hundred is spend in order to start the collection. Recently, I sewed handmade book and spent for about few hundreds for getting some papers, fabric and embellishment and etc.

When and how did you start card making?
As a child my mom always insisted I make cards for family on every occasion possible. I dreaded it. It wasn't until college in 1996 that I really started making cards for fun, and I didn't discover stamping until 2004.

When would you say you are most creative?
Definitely early morning! Sometimes I wake up around 4 am and sneak into my studio for some crafty time before the family wakes up.

What is your favorite technique?
I love emboss resist. Love it.

Do trends inspire your creative process?
Not really. I'm kind of clueless about what's trendy and what's not, and just like to work with whatever sparks my interest.

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?
Oh sure! The most challenging thing to me is working "on demand" for Design Team projects or to meet deadlines. I'm really a "go with the flow" kind of person, so working "inside the box" is not easy for me!

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?
I'm really inspired by so many people, and not all of them are stampers. For instance, Alicia Paulson at Posie Gets Cozy is one of the first places I go for creative inspiration. She blogs about knitting, cooking, sewing, and lots of other inspiring things. It's total eye-candy over there!

How would you describe your style?
I'm pretty eclectic, not sticking to any particular style, but using them all from CAS to Vintage/Shabby as my mood sees fit.

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
Generally, about an hour, but I make lots of 10 minute cards too!

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?
Mail them out, give them away, donate them to fundraisers, and sell them.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past including guest design spot?
I currently design for CAS-ual Fridays, Denami Designs, and Practicing Creativity Designs. In the past I've designed for Verve, Sasya's Sketches, Firecracker Designs, Tuesday Throwdown, Simply Scrapping Crafts, and CS Designs.

When and how did you start Cardmaking?
I started cardmaking almost ten years ago after attending a friend's Stampin' Up workshop. I was instantly hooked!

When would you say you are most creative?
My creativity kicks in around the same time I get all my kiddoes tucked into their beds. I look forward to unwinding in the quiet of my craft room, and often find myself still there into the wee hours of the morning! I truly dislike being under the gun of a deadline, but at the same time, I find that my best work comes in the 11th hour!

What is your favorite technique?
I'm not so much of a technique-driven designer, but one technique that does find its way into my creations regularly is distressing, whether that's with distress inks, a distressing tool, or paint.

Do trends inspire your creative process?
I like watching trends take off and find it fun (and often challenging -- in a good way) to incorporate them into my own style.

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?
Finding balance -- I could craft all day!

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?
I'm inspired by so very many talented paper crafters, it would be impossible to name just one! Some of my favorite designers to watch are those whose style is opposite of mine -- specifically, those who pull off the modern, graphic, clean-and-simple look so flawlessly. That's a style that I personally struggle with, so I tend to respond to their work with an extra dose of amazement.

How would you describe your style?
Eclectic ... I like to try a little of everything and thrive on that element of surprise. I never know exactly what I'm going to end up with after a crafty session.

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
I'm a super slow crafter, and typically spend around three hours on a single card or project. Crazy? Yes. But I love the process just as much as the finished product!

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?
Okay, please don't judge ... sadly, many of my creations end up in boxes in my basement, even those specifically created to send out! I don't know why, but I loathe going to the post office, and since my cards tend to be bulky and heavy, I need to take them there for correct postage. I have two goals for the current year -- mail more cards and open an etsy shop so I can sell some, too. I recently purchased a postage scale, which should help with both goals!

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past?
I currently design for Stamper's Dream and Verve Stamps. I'm also honored to have served on other design teams in the past, including My Favorite Things, Our Daily Bread Designs, and the Splitcoaststampers "Dirty Dozen" Design Team. I also like to take on short-term guest design opportunities regularly.

1. When did you start this hobby?

I really got into scrapbooking in 2009 when I discovered the online crafting community and started playing along with online challenges.

2. Who inspires you the most?

I really love Julie Fei-Fan Balzer because she merges mixed media with traditional scrapbooking for her own unique spin on things.

3. Define your style.

My style is eclectic at best but really a mish mash of whatever tickles my fancy at that point in time. I love playing with mediums and techniques and I love using found stuff on my projects. Most of my projects incorporate something upcycled and generally a burst of colours!

4. What are your favourite tools?

I love EK Success Cutter Bee precision scissors for fussy cutting, my paper piercer and Tim Holtz scissors because it can cut through (almost) everything.

5. What are your favourite techniques?

I really love playing with masking and misting. It's a great way to add texture and interest to a project without bulk. I also enjoy fussy cutting...it's very therapeutic and a little goes a long way. The bits and pieces can be used to create little "scenes" and tie the whole project together. I love using "white space" as a design element...it helps to rest the eyes and pull them to a focal point.

6. Do you follow the latest trends when scrapbooking?

I like to use new patterned papers and just let the patterns guide my creations. It's always interesting when you look at trends and make it your own by combining it with things you already have at hand.

7. Where do you normally scrap?

I scrap in my bedroom. Sometimes on my bed. Sometimes on the floor. Yes, I have to clean up every single time I craft. It's a pain but it really keeps clutter at bay.

8. What are your favourite colours?

This is tough. I love using colours on my projects - yellow, orange, green, blue and red.

9. Are you designing for any products, brands or scrapbook store?

I'm currently designing for Gauche Alchemy and Your Scrapbook Stash.

10. How much do you spend per month buying your scrapbook supplies?

One of the perks of designing for stores/kit clubs is of course the free stuff. I generally buy only cardstock and adhesive...about US$15 a month.

1) When did you start paper quilling? and how did you know about it?

Four years ago I had a visit with a friend to an art and craft teacher where for the first time I saw creations in quilling and instantly fell in love with the art form.I learnt basics from her, although I seriously took this art form 3 years after I stopped working.

2) Do you read books about quilling and other crafts? or what sources do you use mostly ?

At times I do refer to books but mostly internet is the place for new learning

3) Describe yourself as an Artist , what hobbies do you like and practice? what other forms of art do you like?how long have you been crafting in general ?

As an artist everything and anything around me inspires me. I love art in all forms be it painting, moulding and crafting. I do practice lot of art form such as Indian folk painting (Warli and madhubani), murals, lamasa and paper crafts (quilling, parchment, punch craft, iris and tea bag folding).In general I have been crafting since 5 years.

4) Do you work or study? and does practicing hobbies affect any aspect of your life?

At present I am full time housewife with 18 months child to look after.Practicing hobbies has affected my life as a whole as it has taught me to be more patient and yes it beats away all the stress and gives me satisfaction.

5) Do you attend workshops or give workshops ?

Not yet although I am in process of taking workshops soon.

6) Have you gained any benefit from your art? what kind of benefit ?

Satisfaction, peace of mind and most important thing is that its has helped me connect with people around the world sharing same interest and passion. Creating something is most beautiful thing in this world and i am happy doing so.

When and how did you start Card making?
I think that I have always made cards since I was little, but I started making them as a hobby, since 2009 when I started playing along in some of the blog challenges on the internet.

When would you say you are most creative?
When I feel happy and my mind is in a “worry free” mode...lol. Usually when nobody is at home, and I can keep myself focus on my project.

What is your favorite technique?
I love many techniques, but the one that I enjoy the most is coloring stamped images with Copic markers. I guess this is because it reminds me of when I was little and I used to enjoy using my color pencils all the time.

Do trends inspire your creative process?
Yes, trends are a great way to keep my creativity flowing... but sometimes I can find inspiration in anything.

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?
Yes! My craft table is kind of small, and I love creating. So, every time I make a card or layout, my crafty table ends up very messy... That is a challenge for me, because I think I spend a lot of time keeping it clean and organized. I don’t like working on a disorganized table.

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?
I have many favorite designers. I love the clean and simple style of Cristina Kowalczyk; the colorful and fun style of Jennifer McGuire; the cute style of Teri Anderson, and the classy style of Ashley Cannon Newell. They are super talented and such a great inspiration for me, specially when my mojo is distracted ;)

How would you describe your style?
Usually I design my cards according to the images I am using. But I would say that my style is mostly clean and graphic with touches of elegance and fun. I love using eye-catching colors, and I particularly like to add little details like gems, pearls, or stitches

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?
It depends. Sometimes, when I am in the creative mood I can make them very fast. But if I am interrupted many times, I can take longer.

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?
I keep some, I giveaway some, I submit some, and I sell some.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past including guest design spot?

I am a mother to a 2 years 8 months girl named Mia Zara - she is my everything and I am wife to a very understanding hubby and he owns his own business. Weekday I will be working from 9 am - 6 pm and in weekends I usually teach at the local scrapbook store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am currently a resident designer for Scrappingville (local scrapbook store).This is pure hobby to me and I will craft and create whenever I am free. My style I should say sometimes clean, sometimes I love to play with paint/mix media, sometimes I will go for "beautiful mess" and there are times my page is complete vintage.

Getting to know Naush Samama

I am Naush, a to-be-40 year old, SAHM to 3incredibly cooperative young lads(ages 9,10,12) DH works with General Motorsand has been most supportive of my obsession with crafting. Dubai has been homefor the last 19 years, where we met, married and have been raising our boys. Mysons and my husband are the motivation, in my, being able to pursue my goalsin art. They are the ones who compromise and encourage me all the way.

I was raised inKuwait, where we lived for over a 15 years. I love travelling and havetravelled a good part of the world in my previous profession as airline staff.I love meeting people, exchanging cultures and making friends.

My love affair with art started at a very tender age, when Iwas constantly reprimanded for “wasting” my time doodling andcutting/pasting and “dressing” lifeless objects. I loved painting. However amazingly not untilI got married, did, I get the right encouragement to pursue my hobby seriously! (thanks to DH’S encouragement !)

I have been playingaround with paper, paint, glue and scissors for the last 8 years. I lovecreating ANYTHING. I am frugal in myways and love to recyle/reuse and repurpose objects. Although I stick tomainstream card making, often I wander into unchartered artsy territories ofaltered arts. I love the flexibility of digital stamps but I still love to getmy hands dirty with traditional supplies like distress inks and acrylic paints. Being creative does not necessarily meanbeing limited to just one specific craft, hence I tend to try out all mediumsof creating anything functional ~ just so long as I am enjoying it.

How I create anything in the chaos and mess in mycraft studio is a true mystery ! J

I had been teaching art in schools and institutes. I am aregular participant in several seasonal art exhibitions thru out Dubai. I conduct 6 weeks art workshops for childrenas well as ladies in my villa at the Arabian Ranches..

Iwas interviewed by City 7 channel as well as Sama Dubai. Express has alsocarried out a feature on my craft works and cards. I have been a part of theDubai shopping festival, hosting two outlets in the Art Avenue at Al Reef Road,Bur Dubai.

I am a member of the EEG, Emirates Environment Group, FelineFriends and Emirates Dyslexia Group.

Hi. Salam. I am Maya or known as Scrapper Maya. I am from Brunei Darussalam which also known as Abode Of Peace. I started scrapbooking at late 2007. Then slowly I got interested in altering items and making cards too. Hello everyone,
My name is Amelia Khalik and I’m from Malaysia. I’ve started scrapbooking about 3 years ago and never looked back ever since. I was a bored mom without a hobby and one day while browsing decided that I should try my hands at card making. I took my first lesson at a local scrap book store and started buying my basic tools.

My first few layouts were actually done during a crop party at lss. It was so basic with no layering or technique whatsoever. Every time I look back at those pieces it reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve learn along the way.

Scrapping to me is a no hard rules, no perfection and no right or wrong. It’s more of a hunch and instinct of what looks good on my page at that moment. Most of the time I don’t plan my page in advance, I am a very impromptu person, even on a last minute I could still add or remove items in my page! Nothing fix and certain. lol

I am honored and happy to be given the opportunity to be today's featured artist. Thank you so much to everyone who believes in me.

Revealing '7 Days of Eid Celebration'

As the holy month of fasting (Ramadan) comes to an end, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid. Since last year we have also been celebrating Eid at Paperie Designs' Studio and for a complete whole week!!!! So we're throwing the party again but with new uber-talented artists and a GIVEAWAY!!!!!

Fridays are so awaited as I very much enjoy featuring sweet crafters from every part of the world!!! With regard to this, I sincerely thank my team members Alia Mohammed, Amna Al Fardh and Tammy Hobbs for helping me continue this event till today (big mwah to all).....

When and how did you start Cardmaking?

I was first introduced to scrapbooking in a hobby magazine, many years ago. The magazine was from a local craft store, which was just starting to carry some basic scrapbooking supplies. I read the article, but did not at all like the style of the layouts shown. So I said to myself: I will never scrapbook! And then, 5 years ago, my nephew was born, and I slowly started to scrapbook to show all of the pictures I took of him. At that time, I had never tried my hand at stamping or cardmaking. I thought stamping looked messy, and I didn’t like the small format of cards. So I said: I will never make cards or start stamping! But then, somehow, I started stamping after all. It must have been about 3 years ago, probably. I grew into loving the smaller format of cards, and all of the fabulous ways of using stamps on cards! And now I am addicted to this wonderful creative hobby =)

When would you say you are most creative?

Well, there is really no specific time of the day, week or month that I feel most creative. It’s really random at what time inspiration strikes me. However, I will say that I love participating in challenges online. When I read about a challenge, that really gets the creative juices flowing, and card ideas start forming in my head. I also get ideas when seeing all of the fabulous projects crafters share in online galleries or on blogs. But, sometimes, an idea will come to me at any time, no matter what I’m doing. I have sometimes had to sketch or write down ideas that has hit me at times where I can’t sit down and bring the idea to life right away. I keep a binder with all of those random sketches and ideas in my craft area, which I can pull out when I have time to do so later =)

What is your favorite technique?

Stamping, for sure! I’m not sure if I would call it a technique, though. For me, stamping is so much more. It’s a way to get a perfect image every time. It’s a way to use a product over and over again, without using it up. It’s a way of making different creations, using the same image. It’s a staple in my cardmaking. It’s basically what I do, and who I am, at least when it comes to my cardmaking. I am a stamper, and proud of it =)

Do trends inspire your creative process?

Yes, sometimes they do. I find that some trends influence me a lot in my creative process, but only the ones that really speak to me. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the banner-shaped sentiment strips with v-shaped notches in the ends. I love that look so much, and I will not hesitate to continue using it even after it’s not trendy anymore. Hey, for all I know, it may be “out” already =) Anyways, I would say that the biggest way in which trends affect my creative process, is with new products coming out. Papers, stamps, dies, they are all often influenced by the new trends. If I like these new products and use them, I may be following the trends without realizing it myself =)

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?

Oh yes, there is indeed. One of the main things I find challenging, is getting it all “just perfect”. I am such a perfectionist when it comes to clean cut edges, absolutely straight cardlayers and perfectly stamped images. I often sit for quite some time, trying to place down a layer on a card just perfectly straight. Usually, it’s not so far from straight that people would notice it, but I certainly do. And having layers glued down that’s not straight REALLY bugs me!

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?

Well, if I can name one stamp designer whose style I’m loving right now, that must be Kim Hughes, owner and designer of Paper Smooches. I LOVE her fun, cute and whimsical characters and her characteristic fonts for sentiments. Paper Smooches stamps always makes me smile when I see them =) I am also a fan of Nichol Magouirk and Kelly Marie Alvarez (from Lawn Fawn), two very talented ladies!

How would you describe your style?

Clean & Simple, fun and cute is definitely my style. I love cards that make people smile! I’m a sucker for the cute, fun and whimsical stamps, and those are the ones I use the most. I’m not really into shabby chic or grungy, although I do come across cards and projects in those styles that I really like when browsing through online galleries and blogs. I must say, it has taken me quite some time to find my own style, but now that I have, I feel happier when creating than ever before =)

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?

Well, that completely depends on the project. If there is a lot of stamping to do, paper piecing or coloring, that takes a good amount of time. But I also spend time figuring out the layout of the card, what colors I want to use and what papers to use. I would say that a card can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. But I love doing it, so I consider those hours ~~well wasted~~, well used =)

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?

Sadly, most of them end up in boxes in my craft area. You see, I make waay more cards then I’ve ever been able to give away! Some of the cards I love the most at the moment, I display on a dresser in my craft area. But when new favorites have been created, the older ones usually end up in the boxes. But the good side of storing all of my card in these boxes, is that I often have a card suitable and ready when I do need one to give away =)

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past?

Just a couple of days ago, Britta Swiderski and I launched our first challenge on the Young Crafters Unite! blog. I am so lucky to get to run this challenge blog with Britta, and to have such a fabulous design team for our challenges! You can check out our challenge blog here =) It would be a dream to be invited to join Paper Smooches’ or Lawn Fawn’s Design Team, as I love those two companies so much. It’s probably not in the cards right now, but maybe I’ll be so lucky as to get invited to join either of their Design Teams sometime in the future. Fingers (and toes!) crossed!

a teaser!!! First let's start with the card. I loved this style that have seen in a challenge blog, so decided to make one for my customers too :) It's as simple as 1,2,3...
Trimmed equal sizes of different cardstocks then adhered them leaving a space at the centre. Then tied coordinating twines from We R Memory Keepers. Lastly, added the alphabets and my favorite embellies ever- pearls...

1. How did you get involved in the world of scrapbooking?

I think I have always been a scrapper. Ever since I was a kid, I had an interest in art and journaling. I won poster contests in grade school, and got A's in art in high school, even when it wasn't cool to be interested in art. (Ha-Ha! ) My real interest in scrapbooking started when my husband and I adopted our second daughter from China. As I learned about adoption and "Lifebooks," my interest in scrapbooking took off. And I have not stopped since . . . .

2. How do you go about creating a layout? Describe your typical process.

I really don't have a typical process. Each layout is different for me. I usually start a page after being inspired by something I see in a magazine, on TV, online, or in nature. Sometimes, I start with a title that I like or lyrics from a song. Then I print out my own pictures and spread them across my scrap-room floor. Next, I pick out the papers and embellishments that I want to use. I sometimes get inspiration from a challenge or a sketch that I see online or in a book or magazine.

3. What are your favorite products and tools to use on your layouts? If you could have unlimited access to any product or tool, what would it be?

I love my distressing tool and water bottle. I also use my sewing machine a lot!

My ATG gun is my absolute favorite adhesive ever. You would have to wrestle it out of my hands to get it away from me! (Ha-ha again!) I would love to have unlimited access to the ATG refills.

4. What types of unconventional, unique, or unexpected materials or techniques have you used on your layouts?

I love to try new things on layout pages. I have used fabric, twigs, burlap, chopsticks, pins, and machine stitching, just to name a few. I recently started masking and misting on my layouts, and like using different items such as mirrors. I remember when I first started scrapbooking, everything had to be "scrapbook specific, acid free and photo safe." I love that things are not as stringent now.

5. When someone opens your scrapbooks years from now, what do you hope they will think or say?

I would really love it if my daughters and future generations look back on my pages and feel happy about knowing more about their heritage and events that happened in their lives or their ancestors' lives to make then who they are.

It's my first day working and yes I'm so excited (woohoo)!!!! So pleased to offer diet counseling for overweight/obese clients undergoing slimming programme,,, However, sort of worried if I'll have enough time to craft :(
Now back to my card. Here I used only Abrianna Collection from K&Company and that's why they coordinated so well :) Started with dry embossing the purple cardstock with Leaf Branch Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug Provocraft) then trimmed the pp accordingly. Next, adhered them and stamped the sentiment on the die-cut as well as placed the pearls. Finally, embellished with butterflies and flowers from the same collection....

1) When did you start paper quilling ? and how did you know about it ?

I started paper quilling very seriously about 1 year back I am loving it :-)

I had heard a little about it in art stores, had also seen some cut ready-made strips. Luckily I got to learn all the basics from a lady in India. The learning process in still continuing & I know it will forever. The internet & books helped me a lot too.

2) Do you read books about quilling and other crafts? or what sources do you use mostly ?

Yeah, I do read books & use the web to learn something new. There is always so much to explore. Otherwise it's my own imagination......

3) Describe yourself as an Artist , what hobbies do you like and practice? what other forms of art do you like? how long have you been crafting in general ?

Describe myself as an artist???.....Well I would love it if others can answer that one :-)

Anyway, if I may, I would call myself a learner........there are sooo many things that I still want to learn & create!!! .... & I know that I love what I am doing.

I do various kinds of art like warli painting(which is a tribal art from India), stain glass painting, origata which is also a paper craft, lippan art, lamasa & minakari painting.....I also make paper bags & gift boxes. Well, of course paper quilling & warli take priority :-)

I have been crafting since childhood but I took a looooong break because of studies.

Apart from this, I loveeee to cook & bake. So I would call that another hobby of mine :)

4) Do you work or study? and does practicing hobbies affect any aspect of your life?

I am actually a Dentist & I was working. But then, after I got married art got me very interested. With encouragement from my husband & family, I am currently giving art & craft classes at home in New Jersey. When I teach, I learn more!!!

I take orders too & I am presently working on an order of warli paintings to decorate the rooms of an apartment complex. I also have an online store on ETSY where I sell my creations.

5) Do you attend workshops or give workshops ?

I have not attended any workshops but I do teach at home.

6) Have you gained any benefit from your art? what kind of benefit ?

What can I say.......This is my PASSION. I love doing what i am doing & I am very grateful to God for that:-) I am constantly thinking about what my next creation should be or how I can improvise on my work. It really keeps stress away.... I think most people would agree with me on this.

It is of course a feel good factor that I am able to create something nice & also that my creations can bring a smile on someone's face :-).......I consider myself very blessed to be able to make life more beautiful for myself & for others :-)

Just can't get enough of baby embellies!!!! I'm badly addicted to them, lol,,,,Here's a quick baby-girl card created for Edible Arrangements...
First, punched the corners and stitched the borders with twine using my favorite Sew Easy tool from We R Memory Keepers. Next, added two stripes of patterned papers centered with a cute ribbon from Prints. The last step was embellishing, woohoo!!! I popped up that adorable baby buggy (Pebbles) at a tilted position and finished with pink blings on the centre of flowers,,,

When and how did you start Cardmaking?

A few years ago I reconnected with an old friend from high school. We had been roommates off and on in college as well, and we always pursued crafty things together. She started talking about “Stamping” and “Scrapbooking” and it really piqued my interest. So she sent me a flat rate box full of stash she was going to put in the Goodwill box. I had to buy my own ink, but I didn’t stop there! It was a wonderful beginning for me.

When would you say you are most creative?

I’m the most productive right after the school bus leaves! But my mind is reeling with ideas all the time (I just need to learn how to write them down somewhere…the ol’ memory ain’t what it used to be).

What is your favorite technique?

One of my all time favorite techniques is Embossed Resist. It’s simple, but so amazing. It gets me every time.

Do trends inspire your creative process?

They do, to an extent, but I’m not a slave to them.

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?

Finding enough time to execute all of the ideas in my head--that’s my biggest challenge. Doing and learning and of course shopping for supplies, those are the fun parts.

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?

I’m a huge fan of Jennifer McGuire. She’s creative, generous and an excellent teacher. She’s really relatable and down to earth, it’s easy to believe that I can do what she does. Her style is detailed without much frou frou, but it’s clean too.

How would you describe your style?

My style is pretty eclectic--I’m comfortable with Clean & Simple, I love Elegant, Shabby/Vintage makes me happy. Good design is what I strive for.

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?

If I have a clear idea in my head, say for a challenge, it might take me less than an hour to complete a card. But sometimes I just sit and play with my stuff and a card evolves—that can be days or hours.

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?

My cards very rarely get mailed, I’m a terrible card sender! They are currently (thanks to my niece and mother-in-law) sorted in clear bins, by occasion, waiting for my BFF to come choose her quarterly stash.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past?

I am currently on the Clearsnap, Inc. Design Team and I’ve Guest Designed for All That Scraps and Making Memories in the past.

Hey peeps!!! Another creation to share with ya all; it's a baby-arrival card (quite addicted to them nowadays) lol,,,,
I never hesitated to add these papers from Imaginisce to my shopping cart at Two Peas, as I was very certain they will make cute cards!!! I started with Sweet Baby paper as the base after punching two corners on the cardstock and pp. Next, trimmed a piece from Beyond Precious paper and stitched the edges with Sew Easy tool. For the final step, I tied a bow and added that cute flower from Ki Memories...

When and how did you start Cardmaking?

I have always been making cards but I really became serious about creating in 2002 when I wanted to create Christmas cards for the teachers and staff at the school that I was working at.

When would you say you are most creative?

I am most creative when I see awesome inspiration…..like an outfit on a person or a magazine.

What is your favorite technique?

I love many techniques but I love paper piecing and dry embossing the best!!

Do trends inspire your creative process?

Everything inspires me to create these days whether or not its trends or inspirations….I am cool with anything that sparks my creativity!!!

Is there something about paper crafting you find challenging?

Trying not to spend too much money on product….lol!!! I think that’s hard for all of the paper crafters out there!!!

Is there a designer in the paper crafting industry that inspires you? If so, what about their style or technique inspires you?

Gosh……I have so many peeps that I love!! I love Tiffany Johnson’s fun, bright and simple style, Maile Belles Clean and Graphic style, I LOVE how Karen Baker uses space on her card….there are many folks I love but those are my faves!!

How would you describe your style?

My style is CAS with spunk…..lol!!! I love the CAS style the best but I do not discriminate at all…..lol!! I love all of the styles!!!

How long would you say it takes you to complete a card or project?

If I already have a design in mind it could take me anywhere from ten to twenty minutes but if I do not think about what I am doing ahead of time…….an hour or so.

When you are finished with your beautiful creations what do you do with them?

I keep my cards to give as gifts or submit them to Take Ten Magazine or Just Cards Magazine.

Are you on any Design Teams or have served on any in the past?

Right now I design for Wilson Designs Stamps, Off the Wall Craftiness challenges, and Paper Maniac teams. I love working for these companies because the owners and the other DT members are awesome and the product rocks!!!!!

Didn't want to upset the boys so I'm sharing with you this card (after the baby girl card), lol... Seriously loved the colors and that sooo cute onesie from Pebbles is fluttering my heart...
I started with trimming papers from Basic Grey- Oliver and Marjolaine Collections then distressing the edges with shabby shutters ink. Next, adhered the base and added a stripe from Tory Oliver pp at the centre. Later, I laid the square pp, stamped the banner and sentiment from Lawn Fawn. Finally embellished the card by adding two buttons with red twines, and baby dress with the same button for coordination...

Welcome peeps!!! I'm sharing with you today a card that has already gone for sale at Edible Arrangements- Dubai. It's a new addition to the the wide baby-arrival category there :)
I liked to coordinate the dress with background so I adhered the Soiree- Collage (Pink Paislee) pp as the base. Next, trimmed and layered the patterned paper from Imaginisce- Little Cutie Collection and popped it in the center. Then, I added the dress, the sentiment 'oh baby' as well as the pink ribbon with pram print. Lastly, finished with cute little blings...

Amna Al Fardh (Team Member) came to know about today's artist after her participation in the North American Quilling Guilds-Annual Competition 2011. When Amna saw her winning artwork, she wondered if that was quilling?! And yes, the entire piece turned out to be quilled :) Oh well you will have to read and find out, won't you? It's Roxann Dragula ;) Let's get to know her better...

1) When did you start paper quilling ? and how did you know about it ?

I have been an artist just about all my life; I can't remember when I was not doing art even as a small child. I would do quilling in small amounts here and there to add with my art over the past years but had no idea it was quilling. For many years I had gotten away from my art due to many reasons and none of the reasons were good ones. During late 2008 to 2010 and early 2011 I was unemployed, so during that time I started getting back into my art. I was doing some research on the web and started running across art that was being called quilling. As I said before I had no idea what it was or how to do it but it looked like what I had been adding to my art. In late 2009 I ran across the NAQG (North American Quilling Guild) and joined the guild in 2010, also found the UK quilling guild and became a member at that time. I am quilling full time now when I'm not working and the rest is history, I will never stop doing my art ever again- something that has been the love of my life.

2) Do you read books about quilling and other crafts? or what sources do you use mostly?

I have many quilling books but to say that I have sat down and read them all, no I guess you can say I collect more quilling books than I have read. I have my quilling books as reference books that I use to stimulate my imagination. Being more of an abstract artist, life its self is my best source as it provides me with a much larger source of inspiration.

3) Describe yourself as an Artist , what other hobbies do you like and practice? what other forms of art do you like? how long have you been crafting in general ?

I am more of an abstract artist, I don't refer to myself as being a crafter. I truly believe there is a fine line between the craft of Quilling and the art of Quilling I prefer to be classified as a Quilling artist. I can do other art styles but I am better known for my abstract art. In the past I have done watercolor art and charcoal art and have thought about adding the two along with my quilling.

4) Do you work or study? and does practicing hobbies affect any aspect of your life?

When I started quilling full time I had been unemployed for quite some time, but now that I am employed full time I have found that the responsibilities around our home have shifted. My husband loves my quilling so much he has jumped in and takes over responsibilities when I am working on my projects.

5) Do you attend workshops or give workshops?

I do not attend workshops but will teach when asked. I have been asked to collaborate with Lucia Sinning's art class in Spain 2012. Lucia Sinning was the 2011 People's Choice Award winner at the 2011 NAQGCON. I am much honored to have been given this opportunity. I would love to find work teaching quilling this would be a dream come true.

6) You are one of the recent winners at one of the categories at NAQG Con 2011, please tell us something about the piece you created and how you came about it :)

When I decided to enter the 2011 NAQGCON Quilling and Beyond competition I had no idea what I would make but I knew I would come up with something. I was sitting at the dinner table with my husband one evening talking over what I should do. My husband had given me several good ideas but I told him it had to be something that had that WOW factor to it. It had to be something that was electrifying. Just as I said it I looked at my husband and said that's it I'm going to add electricity to my Quilling. My husband replied you can't do that you will burn the house down. I told him relax I would not burn the house down and everything would be just fine. I had no Idea how to even start making this lamp but I knew that once I got it started, it would all start coming to together. I started with the bottom- it was insane making that large coil took me several days just to coil the base. Trust me a large rubber band became my best friend. I would coil paper until I was tired and use the rubber band to hold it together until I returned to it. The large open rectangle ring coils were a little trickier to do. With a little help from some blocks of wood and a few failed attempts the body of the lamp took shape. To make the shade was more time consuming than trouble.

7) How long have you been taking part at the NAQG?

I have been a member of the USA NAQG and the UK Quilling Guild since early 2010.

8) Have you gained any benefit from your art? what kind of benefit ?

The benefits I have gained from my quilling are priceless and could never be duplicated or replaced. The benefits are the friends that I have gained literally all over the world some of whom I have met and some I will meet for the first time when I attend the UK 2012 conference.

9) Do you have a website or a blog that you would like to share with us? or how can our members get in contact with you?

I have a website that I'm working on to sell quilling supplies I will let you know when it is open...

Just a very quick post before I continue with creating my new baby-boy card...I started with stamping the flower thrice to color differently on each layer (with distress inks), then I stamped the script background on every one... Next, stitched the borders of Kraft paper with Sew Easy tool from We R Memory Keepers...Lastly, assembled papers, ribbon, pearls and alphabet stickers to give this result:

1. How did you get involved in the world of scrapbooking?

I got involved with this wonderful hobby/obsession approximately 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my son, Nicholas. Only really became "serious" about it, though, around 5 years ago.

2. How do you go about creating a layout? Describe your typical process.

First I choose the pic/pics that I am going to scrap. Then, I pick out the paper and the embellies that I am going to use. Then, it's off to my scrap table and I get into my "zone".

3. What are your favorite products and tools to use on your layouts? If you could have unlimited access to any product or tool what would it be?

My favorite product is definitely paper. I love paper! I could do without everything else as long as I had plenty of paper to layer, layer, layer!!!

4. What types of unconventional, unique, or unexpected materials or techniques have you used on your layouts?

I can't say that I really have an answer for this :(

5. When someone opens your scrapbooks years from now, what do you hope they will think or say?

I hope that they will look at them and think about the hard work that I must have put into them to preserve memories of their lives. I hope that they will be passed on from generation to generation.

accordion flower

So excited to share with you a card that was featured at CARDS magazine: CREATE blog!!! The challenge there was just to use an accordion flower....
This card was so simple to make...I started with adhering the base pp then tied a twine at one corner centered with a button. Later popped up the flowered pp and added tags from American Crafts. Then I placed two flower brads in the punched holes adding some fun :) Finally popped up the paper flower and inserted two cute pins at the side....

I was so inspired by the colors and simplicity of THIS card that I decided to create one for my customers too :) So I started with three white papers trimmed to equal sizes then stamped the flower in versamark. Later, embossed it in white powder and distressed the papers in broken china, mustard seed and fired brick. Next, I popped up the papers on Joy Woodgrain Stella Rose Paper (My Mind's Eye). Finally added the alphabets from Milk and Oreo Stickers (Bella Blvd) on transparent sheet, tied a small knot and finished with blings,,,,

Extra inspiration from Lil Bee's Kits

Welcome crafty peeps!!! Today I'm sharing with you another card from Lil Bee's latest kit that includes mainly patterned papers from Webster's Pages...
I started this creation with adhering Handsome Vintage paper on Accessorize paper for the base. Then trimmed a 2"x2" square and two strips of paper for the banner and sentiment. Next, popped up the square after adhering that leafy cardstock sticker as well as the banner. Later added a piece of Prima swirl and popped up the sentiment. Lastly, I placed the flower form Pebbles and few rhinestones from KaiserCraft...
