Here comes the 'Queen of Masking'- Tasnim Ahmed!! She masters this technique perfectly and you can see her signature in almost every card,, Once you drop by Tasnim's blog, you'll admit that her collection is just a topnotch and quite eclectic..Proudly we introduce you to our star this week:
Name: Tasnim Ahmed
Blog: Cards and Bookmarks
1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
Hello! I am Tasnim. I grew up in Saudi Arabia and moved to USA in 2006
to pursue my undergraduate studies. In 2010, I completed my Bachelors in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Following
my graduation, I moved to Long Island where I now live with my husband and our
baby daughter.
2. How and when did you start crafting?
I have always loved arts and crafts. Growing up I did all kinds of arts;
from drawing and coloring to building miniature models of houses and parks,
complete with a basketball court and pompom trees! I also did paper crafting such as making
cards, bookmarks, and scrapbooks. I discovered stamping in 2011 and since then designing and making cards has
become a hobby.
3. From where
do you draw your inspiration?
I find inspiration
everywhere; sometimes in a cute little dress my daughter is wearing, other
times in a beautiful sunset or a fall tree sparkling in the sunlight. I
recently started using Pinterest and I find inspiration there as well.
4. How would you describe your style?
I like to make clean
cards with a touch of elegance.
5. What are the 5 top tools in your crafting space?
Those would be my Paper
trimmer, scoring board, ATG, Sponge applicator and my micro tip scissors.
6. What’s your favorite technique?
Masking!
I love to mask areas and apply ink with a sponge applicator, or mask and
stamp. I love the one layer cards you
can make using this technique. You would think it is a flower sitting on top of
another, but it is actually all one layer!
7. What are your go-to colors?
I don’t
think I have any. I like to try different color combination; I have a few
favorite ones, and one of them is navy with peacock blue and sand.
8. Do you sell your projects?
Not
officially, but I do take orders. I have
done a few bulk orders in the past.
9. What do you do when you aren’t crafting? Job? Other
hobbies and interests?
At the
moment a lot of my time goes into taking care of my daughter, the rest of my
time is divided between family, crafting and studying.
10. Are you currently designing for any blog?
I
design for the Runway Inspired Challenge blog. I was a big fan before joining
the design team. You should definitely check it out!
This
card features my favorite technique. I masked the flowers and the white border,
and then applied distress inks to create the background
This
card features another of my favorite techniques; creating a gradient with ink
and sponge applicator
This
card features some of my favorite stamps, stamping and coloring with Copic
markers; two techniques I enjoy doing
This is
probably my most popular card. It features a technique that I came up with,
which involves paper piecing an image and adhering it on acetate. It gives the
illusion that the image is “floating”
An
early Eid card! This card features some
of my favorite things all in one place; masking, gradient inking, distress
inks, and of course, one of my favorite color
combinations
Wow, am speechless!! These cards are absolute stunners and dare anyone creative doesn't fall in love with them =) Thank you Tasnim for being a part of the Fascinating Fridays' family and keep inspiring us everyday!! xxx
