Sylvia's Stunners

Hi all, its Deepti here with yet another fantastic artist who is not necessarily a card maker but is indeed a crafter by all means. Her creativity resides in quilling. The moment I came across her blog, I just couldn’t stop admiring her intricate & fantabulous work. She is simply terrific in her creativity. She can create almost any thing you see around you from Santa to cute Devils, from birds to girls and guess what… it’s all by quilling. So, let me introduce a lovely crafter to you, whose creativity is surely an inspiration….
Name -Sylvia

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I am single.  I live in a small city called Miri, in the state of Sarawak (also known as The Land of Hornbill) in Malaysia.  I have 2 adorable nieces age 9 and they are the reason I am still sane and alive!  Spending time with them is the best thing I’ve ever done.

2. How and when did you start crafting?
It was in June 2010, during the Gawai Harvest Festival, a long holiday here and I was getting a little bored at home, when my elder niece “confiscated” the TV.  While net surfing, I came across Quilling.  Some called it Filigree or Filigana.  It was love at first sight.  Love the intricate, detailed and cheerful colours.  That’s when I started to quill and still loving every moment of it.  It is very therapeutic.  It helps to me stay focused and relaxed and keeps me busy.

3. From where do you draw your inspiration?
Almost everywhere!  It can be someone’s printed floral blouse, advertisement poster while shopping, someone’s comments on my blog or Facebook or listening to their chats and conversations, a cute and mad facial expression from a 3 year-old, someone’s body tattoo, watching cartoon (a contagious infection from a tot), toys, magazines, graphics, images…anything!

4. How would you describe your style?
I am not sure of my style.  I think it’s more on impulse, cute, simple and clean.

5. What are the top 5 tools in your crafting space?
a) Quilling Tools – slotted and needle
b) Pointed Tip Scissors
c) Craft Knife
d) Glue
e) Fine Tip Tweezers
And my tools follow me to work everyday!

6. What’s your favourite technique?
None in particular.  They are all fun to work with.  I love to try other techniques I’ve never done before.  When I start, I can’t stop.

7. What are your go-to colors?
Cheerful colors.

8. Do you sell your projects?
I hardly sell my projects.  I do not know how and where to begin.  But I enjoy making it and taking picture of it more.  I give away many of my crafts to friends as a token of appreciation for being my friends, birthdays, weddings, special occasion and no reasons.  I am very blessed to have them in my life.

9. What do you do when you aren’t crafting?  Job? Other hobbies and interests?
I am a Secretary by day.  I love outdoor sports unfortunately of late, the sprain on my right leg hinder vigorous movements.  Swimming is currently my solace in sports.  I love going out for movies, sight-seeing, dining, photography, cycling, and jungle trekking and snorkeling.  Scuba diving will be my next agenda.  Did I mention I am petite (small)?

10. Are you currently designing for any blog?
No.

Sylvia, it was so much fun to know you better and see your cute and cuddly projects. Thanks a lot for this lovely interview and dear crafters, I am sure after seeing few of her projects here… you are all excited to get some more inspiration. So, why waste time… head right over to her blog :)
Crafty Hugs!!!
